Why You Must Educate Yourself When You Are Expecting A Baby
My wife and I were expecting our very first child, and it was something that came on us quite quickly and we were quite unprepared at first. We had been together for several years, but we had only recently discussed having children and getting married, so within a six-month span, we had gotten married and were expecting a child. It all was a pretty big whirlwind to me when my wife came to me and told me that she had taken a pregnancy test and it was positive, so as you can imagine I was literally blown away. We were actually trying to conceive, but we weren’t going out of our way to prevent it from happening either. Now we were pretty much left scrambling trying to learn everything we could about a newborn, and while you think nine months is a long time, there is so much to learn and buy, that you need pretty much all that time to prepare yourself.
One thing that we found most helpful, was to start taking classes and meeting other parents, so that we could learn from their experiences, and to seek out their advice. We also had a number of friends and family members who had recently had children, and we spent a lot of time speaking with all of them to learn some helpful tips and advice that we could use. We of course also had an extremely large library of books that we had bought, and both of us spent quite a significant amount of time online reading about everything. I can tell you with all assurity, that preparing ourselves like this was one of the best things that we ever did. Even after our daughter was born, there were still so many things for us to learn, that the I can’t imagine what it would have been like if we didn’t educate ourselves on many other issues before hand.
This is why I strongly encourage anyone who is expecting a baby, to educate themselves as much as possible about what they should expect, especially within the first year. There is a ton of literature out there that can really offer you a ton of sound advice that I guarantee you will pay off in the end. I also highly suggest that you to take advantage of many of the classes being offered to new parents and don’t forget that there is never a such thing as a stupid question.
