The First Years Wave Stroller Review
As a parent, a baby stroller is likely to be one of the most expensive purchases you make for your child so choosing a stroller which can continue to be used in your child’s toddler years is a wise investment. The First Years Wave Stroller fits into this criteria. Dubbed by the manufacture as “easier for you, more comfortable for your baby” they’ve set high standards with this stroller.
The Wave’s really standout feature is that it can convert from a bassinet style seat for an infant to a toddler seat when your child grows so as well as being a money saver it also frees up extra space in your home because you don’t need an additional stroller. Another impressive feature is the reversible seat. This means that you don’t need to take your baby out and flip the whole seat to have your baby facing the other direction.
The First Years have included many great features in this stroller for comfort, safety and versatility. Does the First Years Wave Stroller live up to its hype? Read on to find out.
Features of The First Years Wave Stroller
Euro styled durable frame for use up to 50 pounds
Swivel seat which can turn quickly from rear to forward facing
5 point harness
Universal Attachment to be used with most infant car seats
Height adjustable handle
Adjustable and removable canopy
One hand fold for quick storage
Underneath storage basket
One hand Folding
Being a multi-tasking parent you’ll love the Wave’s one hand folding mechanism making life on the move easier. The toddler/bassinet seat needs to be taken off before you fold the stroller but this is quick to do and makes it even lighter for easier transport.
Flexible Seating
I’m very impressed by the innovative seating options the Wave offers. At the push of a handle you can quickly turn the seat around to face the front or back allowing you to face your child in your preferred direction.
A number of other strollers on the market offer this feature but the turning process is usually somewhat fiddlier.
Stroll in the Sun
When the weather is very hot you want your child to be protected from the sun’s harmful rays. The Wave’s large fully adjustable and removable canopy will keep your child in the shade and protected from the sun so you can relax on those long summer walks.
Style and Substance
As well as offering a myriad of features, the Wave has style in equal measure. The modular euro styled frame gives the stroller a very modern look which will certainly turn a few heads on your travels.
Additionally, the large 11″ rear wheels provide a nice smooth ride on a variety of surfaces as well as adding to the Waves unique visual appeal.
Performance
How well a stroller rides is a vital factor and I’m pleased to say the First Years Wave Stroller doesn’t disappoint in this area.
The rear wheels are larger than the front wheels; this allows the stroller to glide smoothly effortlessly across a variety of surfaces. It feels light when you push it so a high level of manoeuvrability is assured. The wheels are made of rubber so they’ll be no problem of them becoming flat.
Most impressively the swivel front wheels are very easy to lock into place, which is useful for riding on rougher terrain. Other strollers which utilize this feature often require the wheels to be positioned exactly before locking which can be frustrating, whereas this is no such problem with the Wave.
Storage
The Wave comes equipped with a lower storage basket. It is a bit small in size though but still nice for storing those little bits and bobs. Accessibility of the storage basket is also an issue, assessing it is a bit awkward. Accessing the basket from the front seems to be the easiest way.
Final Thoughts
The First Years Wave stroller is a fantastic stroller especially for the price. It’s versatile, comfortable, durable and feature packed while still maintaining style. The innovative “seat within a seat” feature really set it’s apart from other models and provides ultimate flexibility.
On the negative side, there aren’t as many amenities as I would have hoped for such as a cup holder or baby tray and accessing the storage basket is a little awkward.
Overall, the Wave delivers on almost every count. The technology incorporated is impressive and The First Years have really raised the bar which other stroller manufactures won’t find easy to match.
