All in all this is a great stroller that I am happy to recommend. The only small negative is the fact that it is a little on the heavy side, the result of good robust construction, and is not the smallest stroller when folded. However, it does fold flat so this should not be a too much of a problem for most car trunks.

All About Grandmothers

Rooti Tooti Granny has been musing about Grandmothers!

My two Grandmothers – maternal was Granny, paternal was Gran, are both still clear in my memory for their differences and their similarities.

Granny was a plump ally who wore corsets and had her hair permed, she kept a truly spotless house and always changed into a smart dress (with jewellery and fresh lipstick) in the afternoon after she had prepared the vegetables for the evening meal – I presume this was so that visitors could be received with ease.

Gran was an energetic little lady – quite feisty and taking no nonsense. She cycled well into her seventies and continued to play a role in the family business after she was widowed. She boldly took the boat across the Atlantic to visit her siblings in Canada and the USA, on her own in the 1940′s – adventurous and determined!

And what has this to do with me today, you ask? Well clearly I am a mixture of the two – I leave it to those that know the Rooti Tooti family to decide which characteristics I have inherited! What I do know is that we now live in a different world and I don’t think you can easily compare our lives.

Is my forthcoming little jaunt to California comparable to Gran boarding a passenger boat to sail to Canada? Are my stories and cuddles for the Rooti Tooti babies as loving as my Grannies were – I do so hope they are and will be as long remembered! I hope that a mixture of feisty (well perhaps we should say determined) and hardworking has been inherited, and in its turn passed on.

Perhaps its this that helped us to set up Rooti Tooti and work through the hurdles of the initial stages to give us the successful internet company that it is today. Who would have thought that these two different grandmothers would have a role in a family company providing lovely breastfeeding clothing for mothers? Would they approve? I think they would.

As a final note, keep your grandmother sweet as she will no doubt have plenty of wisdom stored away and ready to impart when the time comes!

Babies produce a considerable amount of dirty laundry, what with the regular feeding and constant peeing and pooping. You have to deal with taking out various kinds of stains and worry about whether your laundry products are mild enough for your baby’s sensitive skin.

When it comes to laundering your baby’s clothes, your best defense is to act fast. First, presoak stained clothes in cool water. Usually water is enough to spots if you get them while they are fresh. Stains that had time to settle will also loosen a bit while they soak in water. You can also try using a soft-bristled nylon brush and a small amount of soap to gently work out a spot. After trying to remove stains and some spots still remain, resort to something stronger. Remember though that your baby’s skin is sensitive. Make sure you rinse the clothes thoroughly. Skip treatments altogether on clothes that will rub against your baby’s skin like cloth diapers or undershirts. Below is a list of the most common baby stains how to take them out the natural way as suggested by Janet Brady, a textile and stain expert at the Philadelphia College of Textiles and Science.

Proteins

Proteins include breast milk, formula, baby food stains and spit-up. To get rid of the, soak soiled clothes in plain water first, then add an enzyme cleaner such as Wisk or Era Plus. The enzyme will attack the stain and literally digest the protein. If traces of the stain remain, apply a combination solvent (an all-purpose stain remover) then launder as usual.

Greasy Stains

Oily, greasy stains come from baby oil, petroleum jelly and creams. If still fresh, remove any excess and cover the stained spot with cornstarch or talcum powder to absorb oil. Scrape it off after 10 to 15 minutes. Apply a combination solvent like Shout or Spray ‘n’ Wash, and then launder as usual.

Fruits and Vegetable Stains

Fruits and vegetable stains include juices, jams and berries. To get rid of them, wash out clothes with cool water and then soak in a one-to-one mixture of rubbing alcohol, and water. If the stains come off, wash the clothes as usual. If not, apply a combination solvent such as Shout or Spray ‘n’ Wash and then wash. For persistent stains, lightly bleach spots by soaking them in one-to-one mixture of white vinegar and water.

Poop and Pee Stains

For poop stains, get rid of them the same way you would protein stains. Soak first in cool water, apply an enzyme cleaner like Wisk or Era Plus and then launder as usual. For pee stains, pre-treat the stained area with a table spoon of ammonia that’s been diluted in at least a cup of water. Make sure to test a hidden spot first to see if the fabric is colorfast. Follow the pretreatment with a combination solvent like Shout or Spray ‘n’ Wash then wash as usual. Remember; never mix a product containing chlorine bleach with either ammonia or vinegar as these combinations are toxic.

Now to some of us this might sound crazy, but many Moms and Dads find that they are jealous of the new arrival. Or to be more precise, they are jealous of the time that their partner lavishes in the little one, leaving them left out in the cold. The whole family dynamic changes when you have a baby, you can’t just concentrate on each other any more. A bay can do nothing for itself and relies on the parents for anything, even identifying the problem, such as hunger or wind, by the different cries. Dad’s are the most likely to have these feelings, and yes this is your child, but it isn’t you who has felt it growing inside you fr 40 weeks, there is a bond between Mother and child like no other. Be a supportive Dad, not a whinge.

A child’s time as a baby is incredibly short, and although it may be tempting to make your baby do things for themselves as quick as possibly, this time should be cherished. Although we all clap and praise the baby the first time it holds it’s bottle itself, this is a sign that soon those special feeding time moments are nearing an end. It’s inevitable that these milestones will come, but let them come naturally.

Having a baby is the biggest life changing experience for everyone. Enjoy and treasure every moment as before you know it they will be belligerent teenagers with the world against them.
