Getting A Delayed Birth Certificate in Canada

It goes without saying that having a healthy baby is surely one of the most happy moments in one’s life.. However, if the baby is sick or born prematurely, joy is mixed with fear as doctors question the survival of the little one.  My sister- in-law had to have her baby in her seventh month of pregnancy because of premature contractions. The baby was put in an incubator in a Toronto hospital; she was put in intensive care.

In this case the story had a happy ending – little Dominic is a chubby cheerful baby and his mother has recovered enough to want to travel to her native country of Bulgaria in Europe to visit her parents for Christmas. Unfortunately, she was very sick at the time baby was born and was not able to register its birth and get a birth certificate now and she found out it was very difficult to get a passport for him to travel to Europe.

In fact, without a birth certificate, a child cannot register to attend school or qualify for government healthcare. Birth certificate is one of the most important documents a person in Canada needs. What my sister in law needed to do was get a Delayed Registration of Birth for Dominic. The process took  about 4 months.  She applied  to the Office of the Registrar General in Ontario. The process was the same as a regular registration of birth, there were two additional forms to fill out and she needed to provide her certificate of birth.

  1. I did some internet search and I would advise anybody who needs their delayed birth certificate expedited to use the services of professionals: http://www.canadianbirthcertificate.com/delayed-registration-birth.html

I am looking now at Christmas pictures of baby Dominic, his parents and grandparents in their New Hampshire home. Now that Dominic has a birth certificate, they are looking forward to organizing his christening.

How To Pick Your Baby Shower Theme

The news that a couple will be having a new baby soon commonly brings joy to the household and make people who are close to the couple very perky and excited. It could be the notion that a baby comes as a blessing or just the plain excitement of having a new bundle of joy in the family that makes everyone in such an anticipative mood. With this feeling they come up with a lot of activities so that the mother will feel good as well as to celebrate a wonderful gift. A baby shower is one activity that is commonly organized for the pregnant woman. The occasion is all about her and the baby she is carrying. Here, loved ones and other important people to the family gather together and bring all sorts of gift for the mother and especially for the baby. When throwing such a party, among the first things that has to be considered are the possible baby shower themes.

There are several baby shower themes that can be chosen from. This of course depends on the choice of the pregnant woman herself if the party is organized with her knowledge and your choice of baby shower games to play. Of course because the party is paid for her and for her baby, her choice should as much as possible be realized. If not, she could be asked for alternatives that are more likely to happen. For those who are planning to surprise the pregnant woman, it would help to ask around from family and friends what she would love to see in the party. Talking with the husband for one could be very helpful because he should know the taste and favorite things of his wife.

Among the most common baby shower themes are those cute girly stuffs that make the mother feel even more feminine. Pink flowers and balloons and toys are common in this theme. Another theme that is common is that of cartoon characters and other baby stuffs. Most of the time, characters that we usually see in the children’s books and movies are brought about in the baby shower. What’s good about this is that everybody is given that feeling to experience being young again.

Pick Your Baby Bedding With Great Care

Without a doubt, baby bedding is considered the one thing that can make a nursery stand out and so when choosing these items you have to be particularly careful. There are a number of factors that need to be addressed including getting the right colors and the most suitable patterns as well the most appropriate styles.

As a matter of fact, it is important to know that you are going to have numerous options available and so when you pick your baby bedding items you will find items that are very budget friendly and those which are more luxurious. Furthermore, you will be able to choose classic items and also those that are trendy and this is what helps to create the perfect nursery.

However, prior to actually purchasing these items you have to be sure about whether it pays to buy them in the form of sets or as separates. There are many companies that offer entire sets in the form of a package that includes items such as sheets, comforters and also bumper pads and furthermore the set also includes crib ruffles and accessories such as crib mobiles and even diaper stackers.

A second consideration that you have to deal with is deciding on whether you wish to pick soft and also washable items. It is essential that you pick items that will feel soft on the baby’s skin and in this regard you can pick knit cotton or even flannel crib sheeting and even woven cottons with high thread counts are very useful.

It is important that you use fabrics which can readily be washed, especially in a machine as only then can you succeed in removing all traces of a baby’s mess which otherwise would not be possible if you were to hand wash the items or use spot cleaning methods.

Another essential factor that you have to address when picking baby bedding is that it must be snug and it should be of the proper size to fit into the crib. Be careful that you do not pick items that are either too small or too big for the mattress.

And, it is also a good idea to have additional bedding as then you have sufficient cover should the baby make a lot of mess. Three to four crib sheets is about the right amount to handle such cases.

Lastly, be sure to look at the bedding items in respect of their durability and be sure to pick items that are going to last you for a number of years ‘ despite the baby’s frequent messy behavior. Crib Bedding Now is a good source for these items.

Using a moisture alarm is one of the most preferred methods to stop bed wetting in children for several reasons. First, this alarm system effectively and instantly detects wetness so that a child is trained to wake up to urinate in the toilet. In effect, this device helps a child recognize the sensations that lead to urination. Second, unlike medications, a moisture alarm poses no side effect—thus it is safe to use. Third, it addresses the condition in the long run.

Moisture alarm systems usually come in either a clip-on type that attaches to a child’s pajamas or a mattress pad. As the name implies, moisture alarms sense wetness and set off an alarm to rouse the child. It works around the principle of behavioral conditioning—it trains a child to wake up and urinate in the toilet in response to a full bladder and the alarm.
If your kid has problems keeping his bed dry at night, then it is wise to invest in a moisture alarm. While this device may not solve the problem at once, it can definitely save you from the exhaustion and embarrassment that comes from your child’s condition.

Looking for a good yet reasonably priced moisture alarm? Here are five tips to help you find one.

1. Read customer reviews on the leading moisture alarm brands. The feedbacks based on actual experience of customers can give you an idea on which product can provide you with the best quality at an affordable price.

2. There are certain features you need to look for when choosing a moisture alarm. First, find out how the alarm is attached. Some alarms come with special underwear, while others are connected to a child’s underwear or pajamas. The kind of alarm you choose depends on your child’s preference. Your child may want to use his own underwear or have a built-in sensor so that he won’t have to worry about placing the sensor properly. If your child prefers to lie on the sensor instead of using it on the underwear, the best option is the pad type alarm.

3. Choose an alarm that can emit the loudest sound so that your child can easily respond. It would also be better if you buy an alarm that allows volume control.

4. Look for alarms with vibrating feature. Of course, sound alone may not be enough to wake up your child when the need to urinate arises. Vibration will boost your child’s response to the alarm. The vibration from the alarm must be the same as a gentle shaking of the shoulder.

5. If your child is a deep sleeper, you can still make good use of a moisture alarm. In that case, the parents must wake up the child as soon as the alarm sets off.  Make sure that the sound coming from the alarm is loud enough for you to hear. Compared with wearable alarms, wireless alarms produce louder sound.

Bed wetting treatment is guaranteed to be safe and effective when you use a moisture alarm. Be sure to choose the one that fits your and your child’s needs so that you can finally say goodbye to wet nights.

Fabulous First Birthday Party Ideas

What an exciting time! Your little one is about to celebrate their first birthday, and you are on the search for a unique, but fun theme that will make their first birthday special and memorable. Well, here are some great ideas to get your creative juices flowing!

  1. Mommies and Babies Birthday Tea Party. This is a great theme for your baby girl, because its feminine and charming, but still a great way for mommies and babies to interact and have a great time. You can choose from several types of tea parties such as a garden tea party, and traditional teddy bear tea party, or an Alice in Wonderland tea party. By choosing one of those types of themes you can choose your color and decorations that go with that theme. Maybe you could encourage everyone to wear big sun hats or host in outside if the weather allows. You could also serve tea party type foods such as finger sandwiches, cookies, and different flavors of tea.
  2. Steppin’ Out Birthday Party. This is a great party centered on your little ones first steps! You should decorate in any color you choose maybe pinks for a girl or blues for a boy, and maybe you could play games that have to do with walking like maybe a cupcake walk. The real thing that ties the birthday all together is to have all your guests bring your child a new pair of shoes or socks as a birthday gift. You can give your child’s size out on the invitations, and maybe decorate the cake with your favorite pair of newborn shoes that your little one wore.
  3. Going To The Zoo Birthday Party. This is a great birthday party idea for boys or girls; it is even better if you can arrange to have it start out at a local zoo, and then move it back to your house or a nearby restaurant for cake and presents. You might also check with your local zoo to see if they do home appearances where they will bring some of the animals to your home and let the kids interact with them.
  4. Baby Shower Birthday. Another great birthday party idea is to re-enact your baby shower for your now year old baby! This is a great way to get some use out of those baby shower decorations and you can have the pictures from your baby shower on display. Instruct guests to bring one baby shower type gift with their birthday gift. The nice thing about it is that you will probably still be using a lot of the stuff you got from your baby shower (baby wash, baby lotion, diapers, diaper rash cream, baby wipes, etc.) and you are probably running low. You may even consider constructing a baby registry specifically for your little ones birthday. This birthday party idea is destined to be a hit and allow you to make some more great memories.
  5. Storybook Birthday Party. You may consider using a theme that centers on your child’s favorite storybook. Does your child like Winnie the Pooh? How about an old fashion Winnie the Pooh party. What about Mother Goose Nursery Rhymes or Thomas the Train? There are lots of great books out there that you can use to draw your inspiration from and some of these themes are actually pretty popular right now, so you may even be able to get tableware and other decorations that are already available in your chosen theme. If not, don’t be afraid to get creative and really bring your guests into the center of your child’s favorite story.

Merino is Natures Miracle Fabric for Babies

The first thing on any parents mind with the birth of there new child is always safety. Whether it be during normal day-to-day happenings or most importantly the night hours when the child is left unattended, it is up to the parents to make sure that during the night hours there child is comfortable and safe in their “nest”.

There is a fabric and bedding method that can eliminate some of the concerns about your child’s safety. Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) is something on the minds of most new parents and cases still exist where there is no explanation for the death, but some causes are known. There are now studies revealing that 25% of babies are found with blankets over there faces. The baby sleep sack is a solution to this problem and almost completely eliminates the chance of the baby’s face getting covered when it moves around during sleep. A blanket covering a baby’s face not only contributes to suffocation but also overheating.

It can take a newborn child up to a year to develop the ability regulate their own body temperature. This being the case over heating is one of the suspected culprits in causing SIDS. Small fluctuations in heat can have a drastic effect on the body temperature of a newborn. The best way to help control the temperature of your child at night is using merino wool products. Merino  has a natural ability to regulate body temperature by capturing and circulating air to insulate you child when the room temperature drops, and most importantly in relation to SIDS, merino wool releases excess heat and wicks away body moisture when the room temperature rises.

The best bet for sleep attire for you child is the combination of both the baby sleep bag and merino wool fabric. The combination of the merino wool and the sleep bag will eliminate some of the risks associated with SIDS. Knowing your child is comfortable is the piece of mind parents need to sleep well through the night.

The Merino Kids Baby Sleep Bag will insure confidence in parents minds that there child is safe. Merino Kids have designed their baby sleep bags with comfort in mind. Using the finest and softest merino wool interior and soft durable cotton exterior it can guarantee your baby a good night sleep and with its benefits in relation to the prevention of SIDS can also provide parents with much needed sleep during the night. Available through: babysleepbags.com for the USA and babysleepbags.co.uk.

Francis Frost is the owner of Module Marketing in Auckland New Zealand. He is the new father of a 21 week old boy and an advocate of using merino and baby sleep sacks, especially the Merino Kids Baby Sleep Bag.

Difficult topic to talk about, and help if you ever need it.Your baby has just passed away either in  the womb or shortly after birth. The worst thing you will have to face if your baby was born above 24 weeks gestation is organising a funeral. you may want your parents to do it for you because you can’t think straight or your partner if you have one, but making lasting memories which are good ones will help you in the long term to cope with your grief.

If someone does it for you don’t let them take over completely without you having your say. Funerals are stressful organising as often arguments occur between family members and this is something you just don’t need now so you have to be brave strong in fundamental arrangements such as choosing a burial funeral or cremation. choosing clothing for a baby’s final sleep, would you want flowers, hymns, songs and or even such likes of a head stone. So first things first after the post mortem if there has to be one done you need to register the death before any funeral director can have the permission to start on the arrangements .you can ring the hospitals chaplin, funeral director or your local church pasator/ministyer to make all the neccessary arrangements for you.

after your baby has passed away you need to register the death within 5 days.

Still Born Babies

Registration
If a baby is still born (born dead after the 24th week of pregnancy) you will be given a Medical certificate of stillborn signed by the midwife or doctor, which you should give to the registrar. If no doctor or midwife was present and no doctor or midwife has examined the body, you must sign form 35 which the registrar will give you.

The registrar will give you a certificate for burial or cremation and a certificate of stillbirth.

You can ask to have first name entered for a stillbirth baby. The registrar will write the baby’s name on these certificates if the name is recorded in the register. It is also possible to get certified copies of the entry of stillbirth.

The information of a stillbirth may be given to any registrar in UK. the procedure is similar to that for deaths.

Your final goodbye to your baby will be a sad and difficult time for you. Your baby’s service can also be a beautiful way to honour your baby. Their short little lost life has affected you in so many ways. This can be a time to share the time you have spent with your baby with special people around you. It is important to draw on the support networks around you if possible.

For babies under 24 weeks gestation.

A Funeral

Although, by law, you must have your baby buried or cremated, you are under no obligation to hold a funeral service. This means that you can say goodbye in almost any way you choose.

Many parents find that the funeral marks the time when they say goodbye to their baby – the moment when they truly understand that their baby has died. It can be a very distressing and painful experience, but it can also be a time to acknowledge your baby’s importance and to share and express your grief and your love with others. Many parents talk of the funeral as a valued memory and something they are glad they went through.

A funeral can be religious or non-religious, traditional or a ceremony of your own design. Think about how you would like to say goodbye to your baby. Do not let outside pressures force you into doing something that does not feel right for you and your baby.

If you choose to arrange the burial or cremation, and the funeral yourself, we hope you will be able to find a way of saying goodbye which will be of some comfort, and will be a sustaining memory in the weeks, months and years ahead.

    What Causes Adult Bed Wetting

Nocturnal enuresis or bed wetting is mainly associated with night time incidents among infants to children.  However, children are not the only sufferers of night time wetting.  Adult enuresis are happening to a lot of people worldwide.  Adult enuresis could happen due to many reasons.

Adult bedwetting could be categorized as secondary nocturnal enuresis.  Bed wetting have two types: the primary and the secondary.  Primary enuresis would refer to bed wetting since infancy which is common among kids.  Secondary enuresis would refer to bed wetting that occurred after the person has been dry over a long period of time.

There are different causes of adult wetting.  It could be due

    • Genetics.  There are studies showing that if one of the parent has the history of bedwetting, then there are 45% of chances that it could happen to their offspring. This does not only apply on children night time incidents, but also on adult bed wetting.

    • Hormonal.  The anti-diuretic hormone produced by the body is responsible in sending signals to the kidneys to produce less urine.  The production of this kind of hormone increases during night time.  If the body does not produce enough ADH then the kidneys will still produce urine.  Diseases that commonly affects the production of ADH is diabetes.

    • Muscular.  There is a muscle in the bladder called the detrusor.  The detrusor contracts to negate the urine.  However, this could be unstable especially if the body is exposed to different bladder irritants like caffeine and alcohol.

    • Medical. There are numerous medical reasons for adult enuresis, it could be urinary tract infection, urinary stones, prostate cancer, prostate enlargement and even bladder cancer.   There are also sleeping disorders which are associated with nighttime wetting.  Aide from bed wetting, other symptoms could also include night terrors and sweats or sleep walking.

    • Medication. There are different kinds of drugs available and used by people nowadays.  Drugs and medications could affect with the body and bladder control.  In some cases of sleep apnea, drugs taken to avoid other complications could lead to adult wetting.

    • Psychological. An adult could experience physical shock or trauma that could lead to “triggering” of enuresis.  Emotional distress could also be a reson.  This kind of cause or situation is often times, the easiest to treat.

    • Natural aging.  Aging reduces our body’s control over muscles, sending  neurological signals can be slower, reflexes are also slower.  Bladder control among older adults could be a problem.

Adult bed wetting could deeply affect a person’s confidence, esteem and their relationship.  Because of the fear of getting embarrassed and ashamed, adults who suffer from enuresis tend to hide their condition.  It is important to encourage the adult sufferer to open up and talk about their problems.  Dealing with these fears would help them get medical help.  Normally, fear of getting embarrassed about bed wetting, prevents them from seeking professional and medical help.  Family and friends are very important at this stage.

When seeking medical help, doctors would assess the situation to identify what is the primary cause of adult bed wetting.  There are different urine management which can be done to help adult sufferers deal with bed wetting like relieving within specific time intervals, fluid management, sometimes with medication and exercising muscles.

    Why Is Your Child Bedwetting?

Bed wetting or nocturnal enuresis is among the most common problems that pediatrics face from anxious and frustrated parents.  About 20 % of five year olds would experience bed wetting.  The rate gets smaller as the children gets older.  Upon reaching 10 years of age, the percentage goes down to 5%. Even though some professionals and parents see bed wetting as a passing problem, about 2 to 3% of children who continuously bed wet do so because of medical problems.

There are several causes of bed wetting.  Primary nocturnal enuresis or bed wetting since infancy can be attributed to two most common causes.  It could be a neurological-developmental delay or these children are just delayed in developing their ability to stay dry and control their bladder.  Meanwhile, there are also studies showing that bed wetting could also run in the family.  If one of the parents are bed wetting until the age of five, there is about 45% that one of his kids will also experience that.

However, it is still not safe to rule out other causes. Genetic and developmental delay can be the most common causes but they cannot be identified immediately.  There are different causes which can be detected by series of exams which is why, it is important for some parents to go to a doctor first.

Here are other causes of bed wetting:

    • Diseases and infections.  About 5% of bed wetting is caused by infections and disease, urinary tract infection is the most common.

    • Physical abnormalities.  There are some individuals who actually have a smaller bladder and lesser bladder capacity.  Children’s bladder may not be developed enough.

    • Constipation. Too much pressure on the bladder like constipated bowels can cause urination.

    • ADHD.  Children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder or  ADHD have 2.7 times of higher possibility for bed wetting to happen.

    • Drinks. There are some drinks that causes more urine like caffeine and alcohol consumption.

    • Hormonal imbalance.  There are some children who do not develop anti-diuretic hormone or ADH.  This hormone slows down urine production.

    • Sleep apnea.  Sleep apnea is an obstructive sleeping condition, the individual finds it difficult to breathe and is obstructed while sleeping.  Bed wetting is not the only sign or symptom of sleep apnea, it could also include snoring, sore throat, and even daytime drowsiness.

    • Food allergies.  Although, the link is not properly established and may require additional research, food allergies can also be cause of bed wetting.
    • Psychological causes.  There are some incidents that may trigger bed wetting among children and even adults. For example, a traumatic experience like an accident, sexual abuse, death or bullying.

    • Stress.  Bed wetting could be associated with returning or secondary enuresis.  Stress from family issues or other social events like divorce, moving to a new place, a new member of the family or death could be a factor for bed wetting to return.

Understanding what causes bed wetting would help you understand how to manage or “cure” your child’s bed wetting incidents.  However, before you get any kind of medication or undergo any therapy, it would be better to get medical help.  Through series of tests, doctors would be able to identify what causes you child to wet the mattress and later on, define a therapy suited for your kid.

How to Teach a Child to Walk

Exercise is essentially important to the health of the infant. Its first exercise, of course, will be in the nurse’s arms. After a month or two, when it begins to sleep less during the day, it will delight to roll and kick about on the sofa: it will thus use its limbs freely; and this, with carrying out into the open air, is all the exercise it requires at this period. By and by, however, the child will make its first attempts to walk. Now it is important that none of the many plans which have been devised to teach a child to walk, should be adopted the go-cart, leading-strings, etc.; their tendency is mischievous; and flatness of the chest, confined lungs, distorted spine, and deformed legs, are so many evils which often originate in such practices. This is explained by the fact of the bones in infancy being comparatively soft and pliable, and if prematurely subjected by these contrivances to carry the weight of the body, they yield just like an elastic stick bending under a weight, and as a natural consequence become curved and distorted.

It is highly necessary that the young and experienced mother should recollect this fact, for the early efforts of the little one to walk are naturally viewed by her with so much delight, that she will be apt to encourage and prolong its attempts, without any thought of the mischief which they may occasion; thus many a parent has had to mourn over the deformity which she has herself created.

It may be as well here to remark, that if such distortion is timely noticed, it is capable of correction, even after evident curvature has taken place. It is to be remedied by using those means that shall invigorate the frame, and promote the child’s general health (a daily plunge into the cold bath, or sponging with cold salt water, will be found signally efficacious), and by avoiding the original cause of the distortion never allowing the child to get upon his feet. The only way to accomplish the latter intention, is to put both the legs into a large stocking; this will effectually answer this purpose, while, at the same time, it does not prevent the free and full exercise of the muscles of the legs. After some months pursuing this plan, the limbs will be found no longer deformed, the bones to have acquired firmness and the muscles strength; and the child may be permitted to get upon his feet again without any hazard of perpetuating or renewing the evil.

The best mode of teaching a child to walk, is to let it teach itself, and this it will do readily enough. It will first crawl about: this exercises every muscle in the body, does not fatigue the child, throws no weight upon the bones, but imparts vigour and strength, and is thus highly useful. After a while, having the power, it will wish to do more: it will endeavour to lift itself upon its feet by the aid of a chair, and though it fail again and again in its attempts, it will still persevere until it accomplish it. By this it learns, first, to raise itself from the floor; and secondly, to stand, but not without keeping hold of the object on which it has seized. Next it will balance itself without holding, and will proudly and laughingly show that it can stand alone. Fearful, however, as yet of moving its limbs without support, it will seize a chair or anything else near it, when it will dare to advance as far as the limits of its support will permit. This little adventure will be repeated day after day with increased exultation; when, after numerous trials, he will feel confident of his power to balance himself, and he will run alone. Now time is required for this gradual self-teaching, during which the muscles and bones become strengthened; and when at last called upon to sustain the weight of the body, are fully capable of doing so.

When the child has acquired sufficient strength to take active exercise, he can scarcely be too much in the open air; the more he is habituated to this, the more capable will he be of bearing the vicissitudes of the climate. Children, too, should always be allowed to amuse themselves at pleasure, for they will generally take that kind and degree of exercise which is best calculated to promote the growth and development of the body. In the unrestrained indulgence of their youthful sports, every muscle of the body comes in for its share of active exercise; and free growth, vigour, and health are the result.

If, however, a child is delicate and strumous, and too feeble to take sufficient exercise on foot, and to such a constitution the respiration of a pure air and exercise are indispensable for the improvement of health, and without them all other efforts will fail, riding on a donkey or pony forms the best substitute. This kind of exercise will always be found of infinite service to delicate children; it amuses the mind, and exercises the muscles of the whole body, and yet in so gentle a manner as to induce little fatigue.

The exercises of horseback, however, are most particularly useful where there is a tendency in the constitution to pulmonary consumption, either from hereditary or accidental causes. It is here beneficial, as well through its influence on the general health, as more directly on the lungs themselves. There can be no doubt that the lungs, like the muscles of the body, acquire power and health of function by exercise. Now during a ride this is obtained, and without much fatigue to the body. The free and equable expansion of the lungs by full inspiration, necessarily takes place; this maintains their healthy structure, by keeping all the air-passages open and pervious; it prevents congestion in the pulmonary circulation, and at the same time provides more completely for the necessary chemical action on the blood, by changing, at each act of respiration, a sufficient proportion of the whole air contained in the lungs, all objects of great importance, and all capable of being promoted, more or less, by the means in question.
